About TidyShot
TidyShot transforms how you work with screenshots on Mac. This powerful menu bar utility watches your screenshot folder, instantly copies new captures to clipboard, intelligently renames files based on the frontmost app, and organizes everything into a searchable library. With optional on-device OCR, you can find screenshots by the text inside them. Built for privacy—everything stays local on your Mac, no cloud uploads, no account required. For macOS 13+.
TidyShot addresses a common pain point for Mac users: the chaotic accumulation of screenshots that clutter the desktop and become impossible to find later. By running quietly in the menu bar, TidyShot automates the entire screenshot workflow from capture to retrieval. When you take a screenshot, TidyShot immediately copies it to your clipboard so you can paste it directly into emails, Slack messages, or documents without manually opening and copying the file. Simultaneously, it renames the file based on the application you were using—so a screenshot taken while browsing Chrome might be named "Chrome-2024-05-06-14-30.png" instead of the generic "Screenshot 1.png" that macOS assigns.
The app creates a structured library of all your screenshots, organized chronologically and fully searchable. You can access this library through a global keyboard shortcut (Control + Option + Space by default), which brings up a search panel where you can filter by filename, date, or—most powerfully—the actual text content within the screenshots. This OCR feature uses Apple's Vision framework to process images entirely on your device, meaning you can search for "invoice" and instantly find all screenshots containing that word, even if you never labeled them.
Privacy is central to TidyShot's design. Unlike cloud-based screenshot tools, TidyShot never uploads your images to external servers. All processing—including OCR indexing, file renaming, and library organization—happens locally on your Mac. This ensures your sensitive information remains private and secure, with no account registration required and no subscription fees. The app is designed for macOS 13.0 and later, leveraging modern SwiftUI for a clean, native interface that feels at home on your Mac.
Whether you're a developer documenting bugs, a designer collecting inspiration, a writer researching topics, or anyone who frequently takes screenshots, TidyShot streamlines the process and ensures your visual assets are always organized, accessible, and searchable. The app is particularly valuable for remote teams and freelancers who need to quickly share screenshots in communication tools, as the instant clipboard copy eliminates the friction of manually locating and attaching files. With TidyShot, your screenshot library becomes a searchable knowledge base rather than a disorganized folder of forgotten images, saving you time and reducing the frustration of hunting for that one screenshot you know you took but can't locate.
