What is CEO AI Readiness Test?

The CEO AI Readiness Test is a short executive assessment from MxD Digital. It helps business leaders consider where their organisation stands before deciding how to use artificial intelligence. In about three minutes, participants answer 12 questions and receive a directional snapshot based on their answers. The result is designed to start a useful business conversation rather than replace a detailed technical or operational assessment.

The test looks at six dimensions: strategy, data, team, infrastructure, return on investment and governance. Together, these areas help leaders think about whether AI is connected to a business priority, whether the necessary information can be trusted and used, whether people can adopt new ways of working, whether systems can support a use case, whether value can be measured and whether boundaries are clear.

Strategy starts with the outcome a business wants to change. The assessment encourages leaders to think about the workflows and owners involved before selecting tools. A company with several scattered pilots, for example, may benefit from identifying one shared business outcome and a workflow that can influence it.

Data readiness concerns the information needed for an AI use case. The assessment invites reflection on access, quality and trust. If the strategy for a promising use case is stronger than the underlying data, improving the information foundation may be a more useful first step than purchasing another tool.

The team dimension considers adoption in everyday work. AI creates value when people understand how it fits their responsibilities and can use it as part of a practical workflow. Infrastructure looks at whether existing systems can support the intended use case. These areas help a leadership team identify dependencies that could otherwise slow implementation.

The return on investment dimension asks how a business will know whether an initiative is creating value. Governance considers whether people understand the boundaries for use, including the need for appropriate rules and human review. Both are important when moving from isolated experiments to a repeatable operating approach.

After completing the questions, a participant receives a six-part breakdown and practical next steps. The purpose is to identify an operating layer that may be holding progress back, consider where to invest first and leave with an initial action. Results are directional and reflect the answers supplied; they are not a guarantee of performance.

The test is useful for CEOs and leadership teams who want a structured starting point for an AI discussion, particularly when use is scattered across tools or when a promising opportunity lacks a clear owner. MxD Digital also offers a free strategy call for organisations that want to discuss use cases, operating models and next moves in more detail.
